IN OUR COMMUNITY

The Scott Shuptrine stores are places to gather to enjoy and appreciate the rewards of a life well lived – and are built on giving back to our communities.

Care for and investment in our communities throughout Michigan is a deeply rooted mission in the Scott Shuptrine organization, a division of Art Van Furniture. As Chairman and Founder, Art Van Elslander has stepped up to meet the need of Michigan’s charitable organizations affected by economic hardship. In 2009 he donated $1 million, launching the Million Dollar Charity Challenge, to be divided among 50 charities throughout the state and assistance to groups supporting children, health and human services. The overwhelming response turned that donation into $4 million through additional fundraising.

Due to the challenge’s success, the movement has continued with a $1 million donation in 2012 to Focus: HOPE, which furnishes over 500 million meals to children and senior citizens; workforce training programs providing jobs for more than 12,000 of its graduates; and a comprehensive early child care program.

The Art Van Million Dollar Charity Challenge is poised to continue its positive impact on Michigan’s communities raising over $10 million since its inception. The company has selected Forgotten Harvest, America’s largest and most efficient food rescue program, as its number one charitable initiative in 2013, by generously committing to $1 million in funding. The donation will enable Forgotten Harvest to provide the equivalent of five million meals, or roughly 14,000 meals per day, to local families.

With annual bonus grants to the 149 charities throughout the state that have been part of the Million Dollar Charity Challenge family since 2009 – Art Van Furniture and Scott Shuptrine Interiors continue their extensive support of organizations providing assistance for children, health and human services.

"If you’re fortunate enough to be as successful as our company has been, then it’s your responsibility to give back.

I just believe that."
